HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) —
The Veterans Healing Farm is desperately looking for a new home, and time is running out.
The organization that helps veterans and their families find healing and camaraderie has until August to relocate from its spot near Hendersonville.
The nonprofit found out in January the landowner was retiring and was not going to renew the farm’s lease.
The original goal was to raise $5 million to buy 12-15 acres so there would be enough room for a farm, workshops, classrooms and offices. The hope was to stay in Henderson County.
The challenge has been finding affordable property that is flat enough to put buildings and use as a farm.
The nonprofit has raised about $800,000 and is now considering locations outside Henderson County.
“We’ve had a lot of help from realtors. The county showed us some properties. Unfortunately, they don’t work for what we need, but we will continue to look and reach out,” a spokesperson said.
