ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Western North Carolina will stay dry and sunny through much of the workweek, but temperatures are headed back up before rain chances return late in the week.
Asheville should see sunshine Monday with a high near 76 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg. Skies will remain mostly clear Monday night, with temperatures falling to around 51. Patchy fog could develop before daybreak Tuesday.
The cool start to the week won’t last long.
Highs are expected to climb to around 81 on Tuesday, 83 on Wednesday and 84 on Thursday as high pressure builds across the eastern United States.
Tuesday and Wednesday nights will remain mostly clear, with lows in the 50s. By Thursday night, the low in Asheville is expected to stay around 60.
The warming trend will push daytime temperatures above normal by the middle of the week, but dry weather should stick around through at least Thursday.
That could begin to change Friday.
Forecasters say moisture will increase during the second half of the week, bringing a 40% chance of showers to Asheville after 2 p.m. Friday. The high should again reach about 84.
There is still some uncertainty about exactly when the wetter pattern will arrive. Some forecast guidance brings rain into the region as early as Friday evening, while much of it favors a later arrival Saturday.
Forecasters are also watching a weather pattern that could bring cooler temperatures to the region over the weekend. How cool — and how quickly that change arrives — will depend in part on when the rain moves in.
For now, Western North Carolina can expect several more days of sunshine, dry weather and steadily warming temperatures.
