ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville police say a suspect accused of breaking into a business on Patton Avenue has been taken into custody.

A release from the Asheville Police Department (APD) said officers responded to a business on Patton Avenue around 6:37 a.m. on July 15 to investigate a breaking and entering. When they arrived at the business, they saw a person fleeing the scene on foot.

The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Troy Dean Serna, is accused of discarding several stolen items onto the sidewalk and a stolen firearm into a trashcan while trying to evade officers.

He was taken into custody shortly afterward and charged with possessing a stolen firearm, possession of firearm by a felon, breaking and entering and resisting a public officer.

Serna was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $50,000 bond.
