During the middle of the day on Oct. 29, which was the 14th day of early voting, Buncombe County election officials said the total number of early voters has already set a record.
According to Buncombe County Communications Director Lilian Govus, there had been 79,938 voters who cast ballots in early voting. This total was announced at 3 p.m. on Oct. 29, with voting lasting until 7:30 p.m. and then resuming again on Friday, Oct. 30 from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
That total surpasses the old midterm early-voting 2018 total of over 78,000, the county said in an Oct. 29 news release. The second-highest total prior to that was in 2022, when there were 70,371 early voters.
