ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Prepare for more rain! The National Weather Service says all of Western North Carolina is under a ‘slight risk’ category (level 2 of 5) for severe weather on Tuesday.
Severe storms will be possible Tuesday afternoon into the evening with the main threat being damaging winds.
The best overall chance for storms is in the afternoon and early evening, when scattered pop-up thunderstorms are expected. Conditions are somewhat favorable for lines of thunderstorms to develop in the Ohio or Tennessee Valleys and move into the Appalachians Tuesday morning and/or early Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service reports.
Any storms that develop will be capable of cloud-to-ground lightning and torrential rainfall which may cause localized flash flooding. A few storms additionally may produce isolated instances of wind damage. If an early morning line of storms occurs swaths of tree and power line damage may result.
