Which local roadway desperately needs fixing?
What’s the biggest public transit need?
Where should highway dollars be spent first?
Western North Carolina residents can help shape the project priorities by taking part in an online Project Prioritization Survey to help develop a State Transportation Improvement Program for the years ahead. CLICK HERE.
Local input will help rank dozens of projects proposed for Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, Madison and Transylvania counties. Transportation planners use scores in the surveys to help decide which to tackle first, whether that’s roadway or intersection improvements, sidewalks and greenways, public transportation or rail projects.
For example, Buncombe County residents can pick from among 18 bicycle- or pedestrian-related proposals, six transit plans, and 35 proposed highway and roadway projects.
For example, the long list of proposed options includes: improvements to New Leicester Highway, upgrades to Tunnel Road in Asheville, bringing Cane Creek Road in Fletcher up to state transportation standards, and many more proposals.
Based on a participant’s zip code, the survey includes maps and brief descriptions of proposed projects being considered throughout the region, as submitted by the French Broad River MPO, Land of Sky ROP or NCDOT division.
Participants can give 5 points to a project if they are “Very Supportive,” or as few as 1 point if they are “Very Unsupportive.” Besides numeric ranking, there’s also an option to offer additional comments on specific projects.
The data in this survey is being used to help prioritize federally-funded transportation projects for the years 2026 to 2035.
