Free downtown movie series to end summer with ‘Toy Story’
The Asheville Parks & Recreation monthly summer event series Movies in the Park will conclude this Friday with a showing of “Toy Story.” Movies in the Park films are projected onto the large screen on the green in front of the Buncombe County Courthouse. “Toy Story” will begin at dusk, or roughly 8:25 p.m., on Friday, August 9 at Court Plaza in downtown Asheville.

Dogwood Alliance takes on industrial logging with forest loving
The blooming dogwood tree is the state flower of North Carolina. Dogwood Alliance, a climate action group, is working to protect it and the rest of the forests of the Southern United States. Dogwood Alliance is unfurling the latest of their forestry fundraisers at 7 p.m., Friday, August 9 at Highland Brewing Company, located at 12 Old Charlotte Highway in Asheville.

Black Mountain Sourwood Festival brings bees & buzz to town
Black Mountain is abuzz with preparation for the return of the largest fundraising event in the small town. The annual Sourwood Festival will take flight at 9 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 10 and Sunday, Aug. 11 in downtown Black Mountain. Over 200 honeybee and craft booths will populate the fest, which will also spotlight five local music venues and several downtown restaurants.

2nd Annual Appalachian Mountain Health Fair
The second Annual Appalachian Mountain Health Fair is taking place on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Appalachian Mountain Health in Asheville, located at 77 McDowell Street. This event will feature giveaways, engaging health workshops, fantastic prizes, delicious food and a live DJ to keep the energy high. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about your health and wellness in a fun, community-focused environment.

River Arts District Second Saturday Art Stroll
Second Saturday Art Stroll is a monthly celebration of art, craft, and design in Asheville’s River Arts District. Explore a vibrant array of working artist studios and galleries, collect original artworks, and meet the artists who make the RAD one-of-a-kind. During every Second Saturday Art Stroll, you’ll find live art demonstrations, exhibit receptions revolving around RAD’s yearly theme, special sales, pop-up markets, and more from over 300 RAD artists in 26 buildings.
