HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A suspect has been arrested after a bank robbery was reported Friday morning in Hendersonville.
A news release from the city of Hendersonville said police officers responded to a report of a robbery at the SECU located at 90 Commercial Blvd just before 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 23. Officials said a male suspect wearing a medical face mask handed an employee a note demanding money.
Thankfully, no bank customers or employees were injured. Officials said area banks were immediately alerted.
A second news release from the city of Hendersonville said the suspect, now identified as 38-year-old James Scott Bayne, Jr., of Greenville, South Carolina, was apprehended by officers of the Greenville Police Department around 10 p.m. Friday night, Aug. 23.
Bayne, Jr was charged with felony robbery with a dangerous weapon.
“Evidence related to the crime was recovered and Bayne was transported to the Greenville County Detention Facility where he is being held awaiting extradition back to Henderson County for arraignment,” the city’s news release said.
This investigation was led by the Hendersonville Police Department with substantial assistance from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office and the NC State Bureau of Investigation.
“The cooperation of witnesses and excellent investigative work secured the arrest of the suspect within only 13 hours of this crime,” said Hendersonville Police Chief Blair Myhand in a press release. “Our partnering agencies committed resources and added tremendous value to the work being done by our investigators. The Hendersonville Police Department will leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice against those who intend to victimize our citizens and our community. Our dispatchers, officers, and detectives are deeply protective of this community and its safety. This investigation highlights their professionalism and determination.
