ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A 26-year-old man has pleaded guilty to multiple charges including felony assault with a deadly weapon related to a 2021 incident when he was accused of kicking through the door of his former partner’s apartment and stabbing a man who was inside.

On Tuesday, Thomas Nakia Bellamy Jr., 26, pleaded guilty to: one count of felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with the Intent to Kill and Inflicting Serious Injury; one count of felony Breaking and Entering; and one count of misdemeanor Damage to Real Property, all in connection with the 2021 incident, according to a release from the Buncombe County District Attorney’s office.

He also pleaded guilty to an unrelated charge of Crime Against Nature in an unrelated case, the office said.

According to the DA’s office, it stemmed from an incident reported at 7:41 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, when officers were called to an alleged breaking and entering case at Lee Garden Apartment Complex. A resident, a former intimate partner of Bellamy, reportedly told investigators that he had sent text messages saying he was at the apartment and wanted inside.

“After she refused him entry to the unit, Bellamy kicked in the door, stabbed the male within, then ran from the unit,” the prosecutors summarized. According to the release, officers arrived and found the door to the apartment damaged and saw a man on the floor with multiple stab wounds to the abdomen.

A man later identified as Bellamy was seen running and soon was detained, found in possession of a folding-blade knife, the release states.

Based on Bellamy’s plea, Chief Resident Superior Court Judge Alan Z. Thornburg sentenced Bellamy to an active term of 83 to 112 months in prison.

“The victims in these cases were consulted prior to sentencing and were satisfied with the resolution of these cases by means that did not require testimony at a jury trial and sent Bellamy off to prison,” District Attorney Todd Williams said in the release.
