MILLS RIVER, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Al Yeck’s faith paid off — the Veterans Healing Farm has found a new home.

Yeck, the farm’s executive director, posted on Facebook Wednesday night that “after nine months of searching, we have found our own property! We are home!”

The Facebook post said the property on Kimzey Road in Mills River will allow the nonprofit room for year-round workshops, agritherapy and community events, something it could not do at its spot in Hendersonville.

The nonprofit found out in January the landowner of the Hendersonville property was retiring and not going to renew the farm’s lease. That spawned a massive effort to find 10-plus affordable acres with room for workshops, classrooms and offices and farming, not to mention raising the funds for the property.

“This would not have been possible without all the support and prayers from the people of WNC and throughout the world. We had donations sent from across the country as well as U.S. military personnel living overseas. While the new property belongs to the Veterans Healing Farm, and the bank, we remain 100% funded by donations and continue to rely on your generosity. Thank you!” Yeck said in the social media post.

The 10.81-acre property includes a 2,771-square-foot house, according to the real estate listing. According to Yeck’s Facebook post, the dining room will be the farm’s primary workshop space, the living room will be the veterans’ lounge and the bedrooms will be offices and visiting therapists’ space.

“Every part of the property facilitates growth for us, and we have real bathrooms!” the Facebook post said.

The Veterans Healing Farm’s mission is to enhance the mental, emotional and physical well-being of veterans and their families. It was founded in 2013 by John and Nicole Mahshie.
