ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — November is off to a warm start in Asheville, but a cold front could bring rain to Western North Carolina by the middle of the week.

Clouds should gradually clear Monday, Nov. 2, as warmer weather returns to the mountains, according to the National Weather Service. Asheville should see a high near 66 degrees.

The warming trend continues Tuesday, with sunny skies and a high near 70. That’s warmer than normal for early November, and temperatures across the region could run 7 to 10 degrees above average over the next few days.

That changes Wednesday.

Rain chances return as a cold front approaches the mountains. Showers could develop early in the day, with rain becoming more widespread Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Asheville has a 60% chance of rain Wednesday, mainly after 3 p.m., with a high near 67. Rain is expected Wednesday night, when the chance of precipitation climbs to 80%. A few thunderstorms are also possible after 10 p.m.

Forecasters say an isolated strong storm can’t be ruled out, although the overall threat of severe weather appears low.

Some showers could produce locally heavy rain, but widespread flooding is not expected. Recent dry conditions and the relatively quick movement of the front should help limit the risk.

Rain could linger into early Thursday before skies begin to clear. The cold front is expected to move through the region Thursday into early Friday. Asheville’s high Thursday is expected to reach 72 degrees.

By Friday, drier weather should return, with partly sunny skies and a high near 70.
