ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Veterans from the World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War eras can apply for a Blue Ridge Honor Flight scheduled for Sept. 26.
The Asheville-based organization is preparing for its 20th anniversary flight to Washington, D.C., where veterans will visit memorials connected to their service.
The trip is free for participating veterans.
Blue Ridge Honor Flight is accepting applications from veterans who served between Dec. 7, 1941, and May 7, 1975. Eligibility includes veterans who served in any branch of the military, including the active-duty, Reserve and National Guard components.
Veterans who have never taken part in an Honor Flight are encouraged to apply.
Blue Ridge Honor Flight generally selects veterans based on the chronology of their conflicts. Terminally ill veterans from any conflict can be considered as an exception.
The Sept. 26 flight will depart from and return to Asheville Regional Airport.

A veteran’s spouse or significant other cannot serve as the veteran’s guardian. Veterans who want a particular person to accompany them must have that person submit a separate guardian application.
