Construction set for 2026; reopening targeted for 2028 as city balances safety, cost and community priorities
The Duke Energy Foundation hosted an event today recognizing the work of Western North Carolina nonprofits in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The event, planned around the one year anniversary of Helene hitting the region, featured remarks from several nonprofit leaders and the announcement of grants on the state, regional and local levels.
To mark the one year anniversary of Hurricane Helene and the resilience of Western North Carolina in its aftermath, Root Cause Farm, a volunteer-based nonprofit dedicated to combatting community hunger, will hold a gathering to celebrate recovery and the local bonds which define the Fairview farm and its mission.
The ceremony, scheduled on the one year anniversary of Helene, will be held at noon on Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Henderson County Courthouse, 200 N Grove St.
The annual Art on Main art show will return to Hendersonville this weekend for its 66th rendition, coinciding with the one year anniversary of Hurricane Helene.
This weekend marks one year since Hurricane Helene hit Western North Carolina. In remembrance of the hardships endured by the Asheville community since the storm, local pastry shop Old Europe Pastries will donate 100% of sales made on the day of the anniversary to continued relief efforts.
The event, Rooftop for Relief was held from 5:30 to 10 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 11 at the rooftop restaurant, with free admission for the public. The fundraiser saw $2 from every pizza sold and $5 from two signature cocktails featuring Cultivated Cocktails spirits donated to BeLoved, as well as 100% of the proceeds from a raffle.
For the last three seasons, Austin Maynor, a lifelong Oz enthusiast, has performed as a Winkie Guard and the Munchkin Mayor for the Autumn at Oz festival in Beech Mountain. Blue Dragons, an Asheville Americana and blues band, will perform two benefit sets at the Grey Eagle next weekend, the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene, in support of a Helene recovery album.
