ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — One person was injured in a shooting near downtown Asheville on Wednesday, and Asheville police are searching for the shooter.
Officers responded to the 100 block of Cherry Street North to investigate reports of a gun discharge about 5:56 p.m. Officers found three shell casings, one live round of ammunition and blood on the sidewalk when canvassing the area, according to a news release from the Asheville Police Department. They didn’t find the shooter. About the same time, officers learned of a person with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound at Mission Hospital.
According to the news release, officers believe three men may have been involved in the shooting. One man was described as being in his early 20s with blonde hair. He was wearing a blue sweatshirt or jacket. A vehicle that may have been involved was described as a black sedan, possibly a Lexus.
