ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Area authorities have been busy the last few days with a camper theft, a scam alert and trespassing complaints.
Here are some of the highlights, according to social media posts and news releases.
BLACK MOUNTAIN POLICE DEPARTMENT
Two men have been arrested in the theft of a camping trailer.
According to Black Mountain police, the victim reported that sometime during the night of Dec. 16 or early morning hours of Dec. 17, her camper was taken from the parking lot of the old Denny’s restaurant next to the Quality Inn on N.C. 9.
On Dec. 18, 2024, investigators identified and arrested Daniel Justin Greer and David Richard Cable.
Greer, 37, of Black Mountain, is charged with felony larceny and felony breaking and entering into a trailer. He was booked under a $10,000 bond.
Cable, 47, of Black Mountain, was charged with felony larceny and felony breaking and entering into a trailer. He was booked under a $10,000 bond.
The camper was recovered at East Asheville Storage on U.S. 70 in Swannanoa. Police recovered most of the victim’s belongings and are continuing to investigate.
MACON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
Macon County authorities are warning residents that scammers are calling Macon County residents using Lt. Crawford’s name, soliciting money. This is NOT legitimate. The Macon County Sheriff’s Office will never call and ask for money over the phone.
The Macon County Sheriff’s Office also posted case results from the Dec. 9-11 Superior Admin Court session.
These individuals were sentenced to the following:
Eric Christopher Gibson was sentenced to 2-3 years in prison for:
- F-Possession of firearm by felon
- M-Littering not >15 lbs
- M-No liability insurance
- M-Fict/alt title/reg card/tag
- M-Drive/allow mv no registration
- M-Reckless Driving-Wanton Disregard
- M-Give/lend/borrow lic plate
- I-Fail to wear seat belt-driver
- F-Possession of firearm by felon
- Habitual felon enhancement x2
William Stephen Shepherd was given 2-3 years in prison for:
- F-Possess stolen firearm
- F-Possession of firearm by felon
Brent Alan Wood was sentenced to 6 months – 1.5 years in prison for:
- F- Possess methamphetamine
Archie Alexander Picklesimer was sentenced to 8-14 years in prison for:
- F- Second-degree forcible rape
- F- Second-degree force sex offense
Keith Andrew Basty received 15-20 years in prison for:
- F-Possession of firearm by felon
- F-Breaking and entering
- F-Larceny of a firearm
- F-Larceny of motor vehicle
- F-Obtain property false pretense x2
- F-Possess stolen motor vehicle
- Habitual Felon enhancement x3
WAYNESVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT

MITCHELL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
The Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:
- Brandy Hope Ruff, 43, of Bakersville, for misdemeanor probation violations.
- Jose Procopio Hernandez, 31, of Spruce Pine, for misdemeanor assault and communicating threats.
- Jenevieve True Morgan, 44, of Spruce Pine, n for second-degree trespass and resisting arrest.
- Jamie Ryan Tweed, 35, of Candler, d for felony possession of stolen property.
