WEAVERVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Authorities have arrested a Barnardsville man in an armed robbery at the CVS on Monticello Road in Weaverville on Wednesday evening.
Weaverville police said officers responded to the store about 5:50 p.m. after getting a report of an armed robbery in progress. The suspect had fled the scene by the time officers arrived.
Weaverville police and the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office worked the case and arrested John Wesley Burleson, 35. Burleson was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was jailed in the Buncombe County Detention Facility with no bond.
Police called the robbery an isolated incident and said there was no ongoing threat to the public.
No employees or customers at CVS were injured during the incident, police said.
“The Weaverville Police Department recognizes how difficult and violating this experience may feel to the employees and customers of CVS. We hope to offer additional support while they navigate the unsettling time,” a statement from the department said.
“We additionally recognize that drug addiction is a complex issue that not only affects individuals and families but also contributes to crime in our community. While law enforcement plays a role in maintaining public safety, we also understand that addiction is a public health challenge that requires treatment, support, and prevention efforts.”
