ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Recent rain and snow have helped contain wildfires burning in Western North Carolina. But crews remain vigilant as high winds pose challenges, the U.S. Forest Service said.

As of Wednesday, the fires still burning were:

  • Falls Dam Fire (~505-acres) in the Uwharrie National Forest, Montgomery County: 85-percent contained.
  • Ramshorn Fire (~110 acres) in the Croatan National Forest, Carteret County: fully contained.
  • Hicks Cemetery Fire (~194 acres) in the Pisgah National Forest, Haywood County: 50-percent containment.

All other reported fires have been contained, the forest service said.
