ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Multiple wildfires are burning in Polk County, fueled by downed trees and gusty winds. Some structures have been lost in the three fires, and some people have been evacuated.
According to the North Carolina Forest Service Wildfire Map, the Black Cove, Deep Woods and Fish Hook fires are 0 percent contained.
Black Cove FireĀ
The Black Cove Fire, reported Wednesday off Green River Cove Road near Saluda, has burned about 583 acres and is 0 percent contained. No structures have been reported lost.
Deep Woods Fire
The Deep Woods Lane Fire, in the Piney Mountain community off Holbert Cove Road, is now 332 acres with 0 percent containment. Mandatory evacuations are in place as the fire has threatened several structures.
Residents in the following areas were told to evacuate:
- Deepwoods Lane
- Wesley Lane
- Piney Gate Road
- Piney Overlook Lane
- Gamelands Trail
- Oakview Lane
- Volley Way
- Charity Branch Drive
- Windsong Lane
- Moonshine Trace
Residents can go to the Polk County Shelter at 75 Carmel Lane in Columbus.
Fish Hook Fire
The Fish Hook Fire in the Lake Adger community has grown to at least 150 acres and is 0 percent containment. Some structures have been lost.
Residents in the following areas were told to evacuate:
- Lake Adger from Jackson to Highland Lane
- Parkway North Road from Lake Adger to North Park lane
- North Park Lane
- North Boundry Road
- North Martin Lane
Residents can go to the Polk County Shelter at 75 Carmel Lane in Columbus.
