ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Even as firefighters battle to get blazes under control in Western North Carolina, new fires are popping up.

Buncombe County officials said a wildfire in the Garren Creek area off Old Fort Road near Fairview is estimated at 4 acres and is at 50 percent contained. All structures are protected, and no evacuations are required at this time.

A new fire is also showing on the North Carolina Wildfire Map off Guntertown Road in Madison County. That blaze is listed as 0.1 acre and is not contained.

Earlier this month, the N.C. Forest Service banned all open burning and canceled all burning permits statewide until further notice.
