ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Police Department arrested a man on drug trafficking charges Sunday afternoon in west Asheville.
APD officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle around 1:19 p.m. on Sunday, April 20 in the 40 block of Monte Vista Road. Officers made contact with the driver, Wayne Kenneth Wells Jr., 57, who was found to be in possession of a trafficking amount of fentanyl. Also in the vehicle was Brooklyn Ciara Shook, 30, who was wanted on an open warrant.
Both Wells and Shook were taken into custody without incident.
Wells was charged with:
- Felony trafficking opium by possession
- Felony trafficking opium by transport
- Felony possession with intent to manufacture sell deliver Schedule II
- Felony possession of Schedule II x3
- Felony maintain a vehicle
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Citation: no insurance
- Citation: failure to register vehicle
- Citation: failure to display tag
Wells was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $200,000 secured bond.
Shook was charged with:
- Failure to appear on 2nd degree trespass
Shook was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $500 secured bond.
