ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville Police Department officers arrested two individuals in separate incidents on Tuesday evening as part of an ongoing effort to reduce gun violence and drug activity in west Asheville.
APD officers responded to a report of gunman around 6:09 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29 on Cordova Street. Upon arrival, officers witnessed a man, later identified as Justus Akeem Sloan, 29, discard a gun into a trashcan before entering a nearby residence. Officers quickly recovered the firearm and arrested Sloan without incident.
While conducting proactive crime prevention later that evening, officers encountered Nicholas D. J. Ivers, 27, near the 490 block of Haywood Road. Ivers was in possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine and was taken into custody without incident.
Sloan was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $50,000 secured bond and charged with:
- One felony count of firearm by felon
- One misdemeanor count of carrying concealed gun
Ivers was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $6,500 secured bond and charged with:
- One felony count possession of fentanyl
- One felony count possession of methamphetamine
