ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville Police Department detectives have apprehended a suspect following a south Asheville shooting in which one man was wounded with non-fatal injuries.

Around 11:14 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, APD officers responded to a residence on Crest Avenue to investigate a report of a gunshot. En route, officers learned that the victim, suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg, was taken to Mission Hospital by a third party prior to their arrival.

Upon arriving on scene, officers learned the suspected shooter had fled but was believed to be at a nearby residence.

After conducting a search of the area, the suspect, Oshua Archie Peak, 29, was not immediately located, remaining at large until he was found and taken into custody this morning.

Peak was charged with:

  • Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or seriously injure
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon
  • Discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling
  • Discharging a firearm within city limits
  • Resist, delay and obstruct a public officer

Peak was also arrested on warrant for two counts of felony probation violation.

Peak was booked into the Buncombe County Detention facility under no bond by a magistrate due to the Pretrial Integrity Act.
