UPDATE: A man has been charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon following the death of a woman found early Monday at a gas station in Buncombe County.

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Jodi Anderson.

The suspect, identified as John Blodgett, 54, was arrested at the Walmart on Airport Road, authorities said.

The circumstances surrounding Anderson’s death remain under investigation. The sheriff’s office said additional details will be released as they become available.

“Our hearts are with the family of Jodi Anderson,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A woman was found dead early Monday morning at a gas station in southern Buncombe County, and sheriff’s deputies have taken a suspect into custody, authorities said.

Deputies responded around 7 a.m. to reports of a fight at the Shell station at 4012 Sweeten Creek Road, according to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office. When deputies arrived, they discovered a woman dead at the scene. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The suspect was arrested without incident shortly afterward at the Walmart on Airport Road, District 1 Captain Dustan Auldredge said.

“This was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public,” Auldredge said in a statement.

Investigators are interviewing the suspect, whose name will be released once charges are formally filed, authorities said.

Although the cause of death and other details remain under investigation, the sheriff’s office is calling it a homicide investigation. The sheriff’s office said additional updates will be provided as the case develops.
