ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A man was arrested over the weekend after Asheville police said he fired multiple gunshots from a moving vehicle in a south Asheville neighborhood, damaging an occupied home.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of Wellington Drive shortly after 12:40 a.m. on July 13. According to the Asheville Police Department, officers heard additional gunfire coming from a vehicle speeding through the area shortly after they arrived.
A search of the area led officers to shell casings and property damage at a home that was occupied at the time. No injuries were reported.
Police later located the suspected vehicle at a nearby residence and identified 21-year-old Luis Daniel Mares-Reyes as the shooter. He was taken into custody without incident.
Mares-Reyes is charged with:
- Felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction
- Felony discharge into an occupied dwelling
- Misdemeanor damage to real property
- Misdemeanor going armed to the terror of the public
- Misdemeanor discharging a firearm within city limits
- Misdemeanor resisting a public officer
- Misdemeanor disorderly conduct
Mares-Reyes was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $10,000 secured bond.
