ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A woman has been arrested and charged in connection with a break-in and theft at a church in east Asheville, police said Thursday.

Officers with the Asheville Police Department responded around 9:14 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a break-in at a church on Oteen Church Road. The incident is believed to have occurred overnight on July 15.

Surveillance video showed a woman, later identified as Ellen Margaret Hickman, 42, entering the church, taking items and using a wagon –also stolen from the church — to remove the property, according to police.

Hickman was later located and taken into custody. She is charged with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny after breaking and entering. She was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility on July 16 with a secured bond set at $1,000.
