HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — An inmate who escaped from the Henderson County Detention Facility last week has been recaptured, according to the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.
Erick Johnyy Perez, 20, was located and taken back into custody with assistance from the Fletcher Police Department. Perez had escaped the facility following what officials described as a “system glitch” that allowed him to leave custody.
Authorities credited the Henderson County Information Technology Department and external IT specialists for identifying and correcting the issue that enabled the escape.
Perez was originally being held on charges of breaking, entering and larceny and is also the subject of an immigration detainer.
The sheriff’s office said the incident remains under active investigation.
