OLD FORT, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A woman wanted on a felony warrant was taken into custody earlier this month following a traffic stop in Old Fort, according to local authorities.
On July 9, officers with the Old Fort Police Department initiated a traffic stop on Bat Cave Road after spotting a vehicle matching the description of one connected to an individual with outstanding warrants. The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
Police identified the driver as Candace Avery, who was wanted in McDowell County on a charge of felony concealment of death.
Avery was arrested and transported to McDowell County for processing.
During a subsequent search, officers reportedly discovered a suspected amount of methamphetamine.
Avery is now facing multiple charges, including:
- Felony concealment of death (warrant from McDowell County)
- Driving while license revoked
- Possession of methamphetamine
