ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville police are investigating a shooting that left one person injured early Tuesday at an apartment complex in the city.

Officers responded around 2:03 a.m. to the 100 block of Atkinson Street after receiving a report of a gunshot victim, police said in a news release. When officers arrived, they learned the victim had already been taken to Mission Hospital in a private vehicle.

Police located the victim at the hospital, where the person was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries to the wrist and knee.

Officers canvassed the area and recovered four shell casings, three live rounds and a vehicle that had been damaged by gunfire.

The shooting is the latest in a series of gun-related incidents in residential neighborhoods, prompting detectives to urge the public to help prevent further violence.

About 5:17 p.m. on Monday, July 21, officers responded to the Shiloh Center to a report of gunshot wounds at the scene. Two people were injured, and officers recovered 43 shell casings in the road.

On Sunday, July 20, APD officers responded to the Ascot Point Village apartment complex at Ascot Point Circle to investigate multiple reports of gunfire. Officers recovered more than a dozen shell casings and found six vehicles that had been struck by gunfire. During the investigation, officers discovered that a man had sustained a graze wound from a bullet during the incident.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of Wellington Drive shortly after 12:40 a.m. on July 13. According to the Asheville Police Department, officers heard additional gunfire coming from a vehicle speeding through the area shortly after they arrived. A search of the area led officers to shell casings and property damage at a home that was occupied at the time. No injuries were reported.
