HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Police are investigating a report of child sexual assault involving a former employee at the Boys and Girls Club of Henderson County.

According to the Hendersonville Police Department, a 9-year-old child reported being sexually assaulted by a male employee. The report was made Monday, July 28, at Pardee Hospital, police said in a statement.

A suspect has been identified, and the investigation remains active, police said. Authorities have not released further details.

In a statement, the Boys and Girls Club said it is cooperating fully with law enforcement and emphasized its commitment to the safety of its members.

“We are deeply concerned by this information as crimes involving children run counter to everything our mission stands for — no harm should come to any child under any circumstance,” the statement said. “Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County is committed to the highest standards of ethical behavior and integrity and does not tolerate inappropriate or illegal activity on the part of any staff, volunteer, or youth member.”

The organization said all employees and volunteers undergo annual background checks and follow strict safety protocols.

The club remains open, with more than 400 children in attendance each day this week, according to board president Steve Gwaltney.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Hendersonville Police Department.
