ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Buncombe County officials have released key details for the 2025 municipal election, which takes place Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Only residents of Weaverville, Woodfin and the Woodfin Water & Sewer District are eligible to vote in this election.
Registration deadlines
- Voters must register by 5 p.m. Oct. 10 or have their mailed applications postmarked by that date.
- Same-day registration will be available during early voting from Oct. 16 through Nov. 1 with an acceptable photo ID and proof of residence.
- Voters can check their registration, sample ballot and jurisdiction through the N.C. Voter Search Tool.
Early voting
- Early voting runs Oct. 16 through Nov. 1, excluding Oct. 18-19 and Oct. 25-26.
- Voting hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Nov. 1.

- Election Services Warehouse, 50 Coxe Ave., Asheville
- Weaverville Community Center, 60 Lake Shore Dr., Weaverville (open Nov. 1 only)

Absentee by mail
- Absentee ballot requests open Oct. 3 and must be submitted by 5 p.m. Oct. 21.
- Ballots must be returned by 7:30 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 4.
- Requests can be made online through the N.C. Absentee Ballot Portal or in person at 35 Woodfin St., Asheville.
- A copy of an acceptable photo ID must be included with the absentee ballot.
Election Day voting
- Polls will be open 6:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. on Nov. 4.
- Voters in line by 7:30 p.m. will be allowed to cast ballots.
- Votes must be cast at each voter’s assigned precinct location, available through the Voter Search Tool.
Voter ID and accessibility
- All voters must present an acceptable photo ID when voting in person.
- Free voter photo IDs are available at Buncombe County Election Services, 35 Woodfin St., 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- Curbside voting will be available during early voting and on Election Day for voters unable to enter polling places because of age or disability.
