FLETCHER, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Next week, the Asheville Regional Airport will implement a new parking model. The update is intended to “introduce simplified parking options to make parking choices clearer and improve the customer experience,” the airport said.
Previously, parking at AVL was organized into five sectors, each with a variable rate: Hourly Parking for $30 a day, Upper Daily Lot for $12 a day, Lower Daily Lot for $12 a day, Garage for $17 a day and Shuttle Lots A, B and C for $12 a day.
On Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, however, those rates will be consolidated into three standard categories: Premium Parking, Standard Parking and Shuttle Parking.
Premium Parking, which will consist of the former Garage, Hourly Lot and Upper Daily Lot, will cost $22 a day. The new rate is a $10 increase from the former Upper Daily Lot rate and a $5 increase from the former Garage Lot rate, but an $8 decrease from the Hourly Lot rate.
Standard Parking, which will replace the former Lower Daily Lot, will cost $15 a day, a $3 increase from the previous rate.
Shuttle Parking will remain the same rate at $12 a day.
Why did Asheville Regional Airport change parking rates?
According to the airport, the new parking options were designed to “make parking choices clearer and improve the customer experience.”
The airport said that the changes will allow the airport to incorporate future technological improvements, customer amenities and build a streamlined parking experience for customers.
“This is about making the parking experience easier to understand from the moment a traveler arrives on airport property,” said Lew Bleiweis, AVL president and CEO. “Clearer choices, improved wayfinding and future technology enhancements are all part of our continued focus on making the passenger journey better as our airport grows.”
What changes will travelers see?
There will be changes to traffic patterns and parking entrances, as well as roadway signage and airport maps, that travelers should prepare for when navigating the new parking system.
“Because travelers who regularly use AVL will notice new parking names, signage and traffic patterns, passengers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the changes before their next trip and allow a little additional time when arriving at the airport during the transition,” the airport said.
All parking areas will continue to include designated handicapped parking spaces.
