ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Mission Hospital is celebrating a milestone.
Gynecologic Oncologist Dr. Amy Alexander recently completed her 500th robotic surgery, the hospital announced in a press release.
Robotic surgery, also referred to as robot-assisted surgery, is described as a minimally invasive technique that allows doctors to make tiny incisions. Miniaturized surgical instruments fit through a series of smaller incisions, rather than one large incision. These robotic systems can enhance surgeons’ dexterity and precision during a procedure because they equip surgeons with improved vision and increased range of motion.
This also means faster recovery times, fewer side effects, less scarring and shorter hospital stays for patients.
“At Mission Hospital, we treat many conditions robotically, such as acid reflux, colorectal conditions, gallbladder, gynecologic cancer and other gynecologic conditions, hernias, kidney failure, liver conditions, prostate cancer and other prostate conditions, and more,” a press release from Mission Health said.
