ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Tropical Storm Helene dealt the Buncombe County area a devastating blow in late September. Many families are still recovering, and a little kindness at Christmas can make a big difference.
Here are some ongoing toy drives in the area that you can participate in to help local children and families:
Santa Pal Toy Drive by Asheville Media Group
Organized in partnership with the Asheville Optimist Club, this drive collects new, unwrapped toys, coats and blankets for children ages 2–12. Donations can be made at multiple drop-off locations in Asheville from Dec. 2–11.
Saint Nicholas Project by Eblen Charities
This program supports more than 1,900 families annually, providing toys, clothing and other items for the holiday season. Donations are accepted, and a holiday store operates from Dec. 10–19 at 23 Hamilton St. You can also contribute through gift registries on Amazon, Walmart and Target.
Ingles Markets hosts this toy drive to collect new toys for local children. Drop-off boxes are available at participating Ingles stores.
Toys for Tots by the Marine Corps Reserve
The Marine Corps Reserve organizes Toys for Tots campaigns in the Asheville area, providing new toys for children in need. You can donate toys, host a collection box or request assistance by visiting their website and finding your local chapter.
The Salvation Army of Buncombe County offers holiday programs, including toy giveaways, meals and assistance for winter needs. They are located at 204 Haywood St., Asheville. Early application is recommended.
Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry
This program provides Christmas assistance for children younger than 13 in areas such as Black Mountain, Swannanoa and East Asheville. Call 828-669-9404.
Western Carolina Rescue Ministries
The ministry hosts a Christmas banquet featuring meals, gifts and holiday activities for the homeless and families in poverty.
The Asheville-Buncombe Community Christian Ministry provides Christmas gifts for children and teenagers, along with other forms of support.
