ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office deputies found a man with a gunshot wound lying in the backseat of the SUV while investigating a shooting in Candler on Friday night.
Deputies were dispatched to 33 Maria Lane about 10 p.m. after a report of a person with a gun. The original caller said fighting neighbors were possibly shooting at each other, a news release from the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office said. The deputies were also told a man had been placed in a white SUV that fled the scene.
While responding to the call, deputies stopped an SUV matching the description traveling along Smokey Park Highway. During the traffic stop, they found a man with a gunshot wound to the thigh area of his left leg lying in the backseat, the news release said. Deputies rendered aid until EMS arrived. The victim was taken to Mission Hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Sheriff Quentin Miller, deputies have received information that may help identify a suspect in the shooting. Miller said it appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the community.
