ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Two apparently unrelated drive-by shootings kept Asheville police busy late Thursday night and early Friday morning. No one was injured in the first incident, but one person was taken to the hospital in the second.

In the first incident, officers responded to Maple Crest Apartments on Lee Garden Lane around 11:38 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, to investigate reports of a gun discharge. When officers arrived, they did not find any suspects, but they did find eight shell casings from two different caliber guns, a news release from the Asheville Police Department said. There were no reports of property damage.

A short time later, officers responded to a residence near the 100 block of Edgewood Drive to investigate reports of a gunshot wound victim, the news release said. When officers arrived shortly after midnight Friday, Jan. 17, the suspect was no longer at the scene.

Inside the home, officers found a person with a gunshot wound. That person was transported to Mission Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the news release said. Another occupant suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene.

While canvassing the area, officers found multiple bullet casings in the street and damage to the home, as well as to a nearby vehicle, police said.
