CANDLER, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A Candler man was arrested Wednesday night following an armed robbery investigation that began earlier in the day, according to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 4:39 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, to a report of an armed robbery at 1303 Smokey Park Highway. Detectives quickly launched an investigation and obtained arrest warrants for 23-year-old Zamar Vaequan Scott, of Candler.
Investigators also secured a search warrant for a residence at 305 Ridge St. in Candler. Around 9:24 p.m., members of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office executed the warrant and took Scott into custody.
Scott is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held without bond at the Buncombe County Detention Facility.
In a statement, BCSO District 2 Capt. Chris Stockton said no one was physically injured during the incident and praised the coordinated response from multiple agencies.
“We are thankful that there were no physical injuries during this incident,” Stockton said. “We are grateful for the work our patrol deputies, K-9 unit, detectives, Sheriff’s Response Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, Crime Scene Investigations Unit, the drone team from the Asheville Police Department and members of North Carolina Division of Community Supervision and Reentry.”
He also thanked members of the Candler community for their assistance during the investigation.
“This incident highlights the vital role that teamwork and collaboration with law enforcement partners and community members play in bringing accountability for violent offenders,” Stockton said. “Our hearts go out to the victim in this case and hope that this resolution helps bring closure.”
