ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Buncombe County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday established the Ad Hoc Short-Term Rental Committee and identified more than a dozen people to be interviewed for positions on the panel.
The committee will convene in September and October and then present its recommendations to the Planning Board in November. In December, the Planning Board will present its recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners.
PLANNING BOARD HEARS CONCERNS, DEFERS ACTION ON SHORT-TERM RENTALS
The move comes after the Buncombe County Planning Board decided in April to table a text amendment on short-term rentals to allow further study and evaluation.
With the new committee, commissioners have signaled their desire for “a renewed and focused effort to bring forth options for consideration of short-term rental regulation.”
Real estate professionals, short-term rental property owners, affordable housing advocates, ancillary business owners, community-at-large and one or more Planning Board members should be included on the committee, according to the resolution.
After reviewing 112 applications from interested community members, the board identified the following applicants for interviews:
- Matt Allen
- ME Gray
- Matt Lutz
- Jay Gerlach
- Chip Craig
- Amanda Simpkins
- Kit Molina-Nauert
- Judy Davidson
- Angelica Cote
- Chris Joyell
- Andrea Golden
- Kenneth Fischer
- Carmen Ybarra
- Candice Matelski-Brady
- Prabhu Kannan
- Nancy Waldrop (Planning Board member who will be automatically appointed)
- Kenneth Kahn (Planning Board member who will be automatically appointed)
Interviews will be held publicly; the schedule will be forthcoming.
